CARA acquires St-Hubert and majority ownership of Original Joe’s, State & Main and Elephant & Castle

CARA issues an Initial Public Offering to trade on the Toronto and Montreal Stock Exchanges and acquires New York Fries

2013

An agreement with Fairfax Financial Holdings makes Prime Restaurants a subsidiary of CARA, bringing East Side Mario’s, Bier Markt, Prime Pubs and Casey’s into the organization

CARA exits the airline catering business with the sale of CARA Airline Solutions

The Phelan family re-privatizes CARA

2002

CARA completes purchases of Milestone’s, Montana’s and Kelsey’s restaurant brands

CARA purchases Foodcorp Limited including Swiss Chalet and Harvey’s

CARA is publicly traded on the Toronto Stock Exchange

The company merges Canada Railway News and Aero Caterers under the name ‘CARA’, derived from the first two letters of ‘Canada Railway’

The first Swiss Chalet opens its doors in Toronto, Ontario serving Rotisserie Chicken as the only entrée

Aero Caterers Limited is launched to harness the growth in the catering and foodservice business

The company innovates further opening the first Tea Wing air terminal restaurant in Montreal’s Dorval Airport

Airline travel starts to take off and the company begins selling catered meals for passengers

Thomas Patrick Phelan began selling apples and newspapers to passengers on the Niagara steamboats
